Everything you need to know about our return to Premier League action at home to Crystal Palace this weekend…
After one of the classic European games at home against Ajax on Tuesday, it’s back to the Bridge for a Saturday lunchtime London derby against the Eagles.
When and where
The match takes place at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 9 November, kick-off 12.30pm.
Press conference info
Frank Lampard will be speaking to the media at Cobham at 1.30pm on Friday afternoon to preview the meeting between fourth and ninth in the Premier League. The press conference will be streamed live on this website and the 5th Stand app.
Potential discussion points
With the Italian suspended and Mason Mount carrying a knock, it is likely Lampard will be asked about his midfield options ahead of our first London derby of the season. Mateo Kovacic has been in fine recent form, while N’Golo Kante and Ross Barkley both returned to the bench in midweek.
The boss is likely to be asked to report on the fitness latest of his squad and whether Mount has recovered in time to continue his record of being involved in every Premier League for the Blues this season.
Antonio Rudiger was due to see a specialist earlier in the week and an update on the German’s pelvic injury is also likely to be sought by the journalists present.
While the Blues have won seven successive games on the road in all competitions with an aggregate score of 21-9, we have found life more difficult at Stamford Bridge. Lampard alluded to the differences between playing at home and away recently and he may be asked once more how his side are planning to combat an opponent likely to defend deep.
Lampard and Cahill were team-mates for two-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, winning the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup together. The boss could be asked for his memories of playing with the now-Palace defender, who is set to make his first return to SW6 since leaving the club in the summer.
Latest Chelsea team news
Jorginho will definitely be unavailable for selection after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last time out.
Mount limped off an hour into our eight-goal thriller against Ajax but was included in the England squad announced earlier today so there is a chance he may have recovered from the ankle knock that forced his early withdrawal to keep his place in the team.
Andreas Christensen and Ross Barkley returned to the bench in midweek, as did N’Golo Kante, though none of them featured. Rudiger is expected to remain sidelined along with long-term absentee Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Latest Crystal Palace team news
Roy Hodgson is sweating on the fitness of several regulars as Andros Townsend, Mamadou Sakho, Cheikhou Kouyate and James McArthur are carrying knocks. Former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill suffered a blow to the head in Sunday’s home defeat to Leicester City but is expected to be available.
How to watch
The match will be shown live by BT Sport in the UK and highlights will be available on the Fifth Stand app and this website from two hours after the final whistle.
How to listen live
Chelsea TV will be providing live audio commentary on the Fifth Stand app and this website, plus there will also be live text commentary on both those platforms.
Referee and VAR
Mike Dean is the referee, taking charge of his first Chelsea game of the season, although he was the VAR that awarded a penalty against us at Vicarage Road last weekend. The VAR this week is Andre Marriner.
