With three days to go until Chelsea’s FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras, we take a look at the two teams and their potential key players' statistics so far.

This will be the second meeting between Palmeiras and Chelsea, with the Blues winning the final of the 2021 Club World Cup. That previous match ended 2-1 after extra time. Romelu Lukaku headed us in front before the Brazilians equalised from the spot, only for Kai Havertz to settle things with our own penalty in the 117th minute.

There have been seven previous meetings between English and Brazilian sides in the Club World Cup, with teams from England winning four times to three for the Brazilians. English sides had won three in a row entering this tournament, before Flamengo’s 3-1 win over Chelsea in the group stage.

Chelsea statistics

Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Benfica was the 14th time across all competitions that we have scored four or more goals in a game under Enzo Maresca. That is the most by any Premier League team during the period since the Italian’s first match in charge on 18 August 2024.

Our 4-1 extra-time win over Benfica on Saturday was just the second time the Blues have won an extra-time match by a margin of three goals. The other was way back in 1915, when we defeated Swindon Town 5-2 after extra time in an FA Cup first-round replay at Stamford Bridge.

Pedro Neto has scored in three consecutive matches for the first time in his senior club career. The Portuguese international opened the scoring in our 2-0 win over LAFC and 3-1 loss to Flamengo in the Club World Cup group stage. Then, after sitting out the victory against Esperance de Tunisie which sealed our spot in the knockout rounds, Neto scored our third of the 4-1 victory over Benfica in Charlotte.

Robert Sanchez has saved 76 per cent of opposition shots on target at the Club World Cup, stopping 13 of the 17 efforts he has faced. Based on the xG of attempts on target against him, our goalkeeper has prevented three goals across his three appearances at the tournament, having conceded four times from 7.1 xG on target.

Moises Caicedo has won possession more times than any other Chelsea player at this year’s Club World Cup. He has done so on 20 occasions, with 12 tackles and 22 duels won. Against Benfica, Caicedo became the first Chelsea midfielder to win possession 10 times and complete 100 or more passes in the same game since Jorginho, who did so against Everton in the Premier League in December 2021.

Palmeiras statistics

Palmeiras’ last game – a 1-0 win over Botafogo to qualify for the quarter-finals – lasted over two hours in terms of total match time (140 minutes, 20 seconds). It was the first match of the 2025 Club World Cup to see 10 or more cards shown by the referee, with six yellows for Botafogo, plus four yellows and one red for Palmeiras.

The Verdao's 1-0 extra-time win over Botafogo in the last 16 was their 10th clean sheet in their last 14 matches in all competitions, dating back to 30 April. However, the Brazilian side have conceded multiple goals in three of the four matches in which they failed to record a clean sheet during that time.

Paulinho has scored three goals and provided two assists for Palmeiras in his last six appearances across the COMEBOL Copa Libertadores and Club World Cup. All five of those goal contributions came after being introduced off the bench.
