Chelsea will be attempting to overturn a three-goal deficit in the second leg of our UEFA Champions League last-16 tie. Here are all the facts and figures you need ahead of Paris Saint-Germain's visit to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

The winners of this tie will play Liverpool or Galatasaray in the quarter-final with the first leg at home. Galatasaray lead 1-0 in their tie ahead of the second leg at Anfield.

Head-to-head

The match features the reigning world Champions against the 2025 Champions League winners.

Prior to last week’s away leg, Chelsea met Paris St-Germain as recently as July when we played in the FIFA Club World Cup final, the first major international final ever contested between teams from England and France. Chelsea won 3-0 in the United States with two goals from Cole Palmer and one from Joao Pedro.

All the meetings before last summer’s Club World Cup were in the Champions League, with the two clubs drawn together in the knockout phase three years in a row between 2014 and 2016. Our 2004 meetings were in the group stage.

At Stamford Bridge, both teams have each secured one victory, while two matches ended in draws.

Chelsea stats

Chelsea are competing in our 20th Champions League campaign. We have made the knockout stage in each of our past nine appearances.

At Parc des Princes last week, Chelsea conceded five goals in European competition for the third time, following on from a 5-1 Champions League quarter-final defeat after extra time to Barcelona in April 2000, and a 5-0 loss also to Barcelona in a Fairs Cup semi-final play-off in May 1966.

The biggest first-leg deficit overturned in the Champions League Round of 16 was when Barcelona came back from 4-0 down against PSG to win 6-5 on aggregate in 2016/17.

Chelsea have only lost an away first leg in Europe by three or more goals once before – a 3-0 Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final defeat to Real Zaragoza in April 1995. Although we won the second leg 3-1 at Stamford Bridge two weeks later, the Spanish side went on to beat Arsenal in the final.

Only one Champions League knockout game involving Chelsea has featured more than the seven goals that were scored in the first leg of this tie. That was our quarter-final second leg against Liverpool at the Bridge in 2008/09 which finished 4-4.

This is our 18th Round of 16 tie in the Champions League. Only Real Madrid (23), Bayern Munich (22) and Barcelona (20) have appeared in more. We have progressed from this stage 11 times, including the last three ties.

In the first leg, Enzo Fernandez both scored and assisted in a Champions League game for the first time.

Chelsea have scored in each of our past 24 European games, since a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in April 2023.

The Blues are aiming to avoid three consecutive defeats in all competitions for the first time since February 2025 (Brighton FA Cup 1-2, Brighton Premier League 0-3, Aston Villa Premier League 1-2).
