It was another busy weekend for our Chelsea FC Women international contingent with several Blues players involved in the action.

Games continued in the four friendly international competitions, with Blues players taking part in the Algarve Cup, Tournoi de France, Pinatar Cup and the Arnold Clark Cup. Here’s how they got on in the second round of fixtures…

SaturdayTournoi de France

Kicking off the action this weekend was Finland versus the Netherlands in their second Tournoi de France game. The Netherlands had drawn their opening fixture with Brazil and were on the hunt for their first win of the tournament, while Finland were looking to bounce back after a 5-0 loss to France in their opening game. Aniek Nouwen was an unused substitute in Saturday’s game as the Netherlands put three past Finland. Caitlin Dijkstra opened the scoring on 24 minutes before Katja Snoeijs doubled their lead in the first half. Shortly after the interval Snoejis got her second of the game to wrap up a comfortable win.

Pinatar Cup

The semi-finals of the Pinatar Cup kicked off on Saturday evening. Sophie Ingle was named captain for Wales as they took on Belgium. In an evenly contested game Wales held the Belgians to a 0-0 draw, after 90 minutes the game went to penalties to decide who progressed to the final. It was Belgium who claimed victory following the shoot-out, converting all three of their penalties while Wales had two saved.

Russia took on the Republic of Ireland in the other semi-final. Alsu Abdullina got another 90 minutes under her belt as Russia beat the Republic of Ireland 1-0 to reach the final, where they will face Belgium on Tuesday. Elizaveta Lazareva’s seventh-minute goal proved to be the decider as both teams battled it out in La Manga.

The third-placed playoff between Wales and the Republic of Ireland will also take place on Tuesday.

SundayAlgarve Cup

It was Italy versus Norway to get the second round of fixtures underway for the Algarve Cup this weekend. Guro Reiten played the full 90 minutes for Norway, who fell to defeat at the hand of the Italians. Despite dominating possession and creating a number of goalscoring opportunities, it was Italy who ran out winners to go second in the Algarve Cup table. Italy scored two early first-half goals from Valentina Giacinti and Arianna Caruso, Reiten got an assist when she played a delightful ball for Celin Bizet Ildhusoy to latch on to and convert.

Sweden took on Portugal in the afternoon, both Jonna Andersson and Zecira Musovic featured on the bench as Sweden put four past the hosts. Although Sweden dominated play throughout the game, it took 56 minutes for them to get the opener. Hanna Glas opened the scoring before Amanda Ilestedt, Kosovare Asllani and Stina Blackstenius all netted to secure a convincing win on Sunday evening to top the table.

Arnold Clark Cup

The Lionesses were in action at a rainy Carrow Road as they took on Spain in their second fixture of the Arnold Clark Cup. Jess Carter made her first senior start for England and played a key part in the Lionesses defence as they kept a clean sheet against an in-form Spain side, featuring Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas. Fran Kirby was brought on in the second half as England searched for a winner, however the game ended goalless as the Lionesses’ unbeaten run under Sarina Weigman continues.

Just a few hours later at Carrow Road, Canada took on Germany. Jessie Fleming was named in Canada’s starting 11 while Ann-Katrin Berger started in goal for Germany. A seventh-minute header from Canada's Vanessa Gilles proved the difference as Germany were unable to find an equaliser. Jana Feldkamp came close in the first half and Germany had two penalty claims but were not able to find the back of the net as Canada topped the group. The Olympic champions could win the tournament if they beat Spain on Wednesday.

The rest of the fixtures are set to take place over the next couple of days before the Blues return back to Cobham to prepare for Saturday’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup fifth-round fixture against Leicester City. The match kicks off at 1pm at Kingsmeadow and you can get your tickets here
