THE FORM

The Blues are the only team in the WSL to be unbeaten so far this term, with eight victories and two draws. We got off to a winning start for our second half of the WSL campaign when we triumphed 3-1 against Reading last Sunday. Emma Hayes’ two new signings had a taste of WSL life with Sam Kerr in the starting line-up and Jamie-Lee Napier on as a substitute in the closing stages of the encounter.

Our visitors opened the scoring early on but were reduced to 10 players after 16 minutes when Reading’s No.1 Grace Moloney fouled Kerr outside the box.

The equaliser came five minutes before half-time when Australian forward Kerr back-heeled magnificently into the path of our top scorer Bethany England who calmly rounded the keeper to place the ball into the back of the net. We went ahead in the second half when Reiten lobbed Laws in the Royals goal with a superb left-footed volley, and our third came with 15 minutes left to play when substitute Erin Cuthbert fired home a rebound from close-range to register her third of the season.

Bristol City are second from bottom in the league standings having won one match this campaign, which came last weekend against Manchester United. Bristol’s Ebony Salmon’s first-half strike was the difference between the two sides and the victory meant Tanya Oxtoby’s Robins went three points clear of Liverpool.

CHELSEA WOMEN V BRISTOL CITY WOMEN HEAD-TO-HEAD RECORD

All in all we have played Bristol 13 times since the WSL established in 2013 and Sunday will be the second fixture this campaign between the two sides having travelled to Bristol at the tail end of September. Our first ever encounter resulted in our only defeat to the Robins.

In September's match the Blues took the lead just three minutes into the contest when Reiten's determined pressing helped us win back possession in the Bristol penalty area, before the Norwegian international calmly finished. Then, just seven minutes later, our lead was doubled and it was Reiten once again applying the finishing touch. The victory was virtually assured after only 17 minutes when Ji netted her first of the season with a thumping finish after being teed up by Ingle. The fourth goal was scored by Ingle, who tapped home to register her first-ever Chelsea goal.

Last season we thumped the Robins 6-0 at home with both Fran Kirby and England scoring a hat-trick apiece. The Blues had a dream start having notched two goals inside five minutes, Kirby scored the first with a typical predatory finish, which was swiftly followed by a tidy effort by England. A wonderful curler by Kirby made it 3-0 at half-time. There was more of the same after the break, with England converting a cross and Kirby completed her hat-trick from the penalty spot. England followed suit with a powerful header to cap off a commanding performance from Hayes’ side. The away fixture resulted in a goalless draw in the South-West.

They were also our opponents for our first game of the 2017/18 season, which just so happened to be our maiden game at Kingsmeadow. The Blues settled in perfectly in our new KT1 home having secured a brilliant 6-0 victory, with Spence netting the first goal at our new stadium. Maren Mjelde bagged a brace and Fran Kirby, Eriksson and Gilly Flaherty also hit the target.

We clinched our second Women’s Super League title against Bristol in the 2017/18 season with a comfortable 2-0 win.

CHELSEA FOUNDATION CELEBRATIONS

Sunday's match will be dedicated to Chelsea Foundation to celebrate the great work being done both in the local area and around the world.

The squad will warm up in Chelsea Foundation T-shirts and there will also be an exclusive interview with Blues boss and Foundation trustee Emma Hayes on the big screen at Kingsmeadow.

Prior to kick-off, Foundation participants from our walking football programme and Kicks initiative will play matches against their peers from the Bristol City Robins Foundation on the five-a-side pitch adjacent to the stadium -  so why not arrive with plenty of time and cheer them on. At half-time, participants from the Chelsea Foundation will take to the pitch for a penalty shoot-out with mascots Stamford and Bridget and there will be plenty of Foundation content in the matchday programme for you to read before the players return for the second half.

NEXT UP AT KINGSMEADOW

Chelsea Women will play Aston Villa Women in the quarter-final of the Continental Tyres League Cup on Wednesday 15 January. The match kicks off at 7pm and tickets are still available for just £3 for adults and £1 for juniors and seniors.
