The form

Chelsea got back to winning ways in the Women's Super League on Saturday with a thrilling 4-3 home victory over Aston Villa. After falling behind early on, Sam Kerr, Naomi Girma and Lauren James fired us into the lead, only for Villa to level the scores by half-time. Sjoeke Nusken emerged as the hero, slotting home the winner to decide a breathless match in our favour.

Before last week's first leg against Arsenal, we were unbeaten in the Champions League this season. Having taken on the likes of Barcelona and Roma, we earned a third-place finish in the league phase.

Meanwhile, in north London, they were fifth in the league phase. Winning four times and losing twice during that stage of the competition, the Gunners had to come through a play-off double-header against Leuven to book their place in the last eight. Arsenal come into this game off the back of a 5-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday's north London derby, their ninth consecutive victory across all competitions.

Recent head-to-head

Last week's first leg was the maiden meeting between Chelsea and Arsenal in this competition. The Gunners were more clinical to ensure they went into the half-time break with a two-goal lead through Stina Blackstenius and Chloe Kelly. Lauren James pulled one back with a stunning strike, but Alessia Russo restored Arsenal's advantage before the end.

That tie at the Emirates Stadium was the third time we had faced Arsenal this season. Back in January in the WSL, the Gunners came out on top by winning 2-0 at the Bridge. In November, both sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Emirates, Alyssa Thompson etching her name onto the scoresheet for Chelsea.

Our last win over the Gunners came just over a year ago, in January 2025, when Guro Reiten's late penalty was the difference in a tight 1-0 win.

A huge Women's Champions League quarter-final second leg awaits as Chelsea take on rivals Arsenal at the Bridge. The stakes have never been higher. Make sure you’re there and back the Blues in this important knockout fixture!
