The form
The Blues suffered a defeat to Arsenal in the first leg of our UEFA Women's Champions League quarter-final in midweek, but are unbeaten in our last four matches in the Women's Super League. After consecutive victories over Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion, we drew 1-1 away at London City Lionesses, having to settle for a point after Johanna Rytting Kaneryd had given us a first-half lead.
Aston Villa went into the international break off the back of a humbling 7-3 defeat to Tottenham, but have steadied the ship since by holding Manchester City to a 0-0 draw on home soil, before goals by Anna Patten and Kirsty Hanson saw the Villans fight back from a goal down to win 2-1 at Leicester City in their last match.
Recent head-to-head
Chelsea have won all 11 of the previous meetings between the Blues and the Villans in the Women's Super league, scoring 28 goals and conceding just twice in the process.
We came out on top when we faced Aston Villa in Birmingham earlier this season. Aggie Beever-Jones opened the scoring in September, but Villa were level by half-time through Ebony Salmon. After the break, the visitors asserted our authority, though. Keira Walsh's deflected shot gave us the lead, but the best was saved for last. Sam Kerr, making her first appearance following a lengthy injury absence off the bench, made the final score 3-1 with her 100th Chelsea goal.
The Blues did the double over the Midlands side in last season's WSL with a pair of 1-0 victories. Rytting Kaneryd got the only goal of the game at Kingsmeadow in September, before a late own goal by Sarah Mayling settled the match in Chelsea's favour at Villa Park in February.
