There was one standout winner in the voting for the Chelsea Women's Player of the Month for March!
The month's action began with silverware as we claimed victory in the Women's League Cup final at Ashton Gate, retaining the trophy with a 2-0 win over Manchester United. We also went unbeaten in the Women's Super League with wins over Brighton and Aston Villa, plus the 1-1 draw away at London City.
Meanwhile, we exited the Women's Champions League quarter-final at the hands of Arsenal, but there were some bright moments across the two legs, including Lauren James' stunning strike at the Emirates Stadium and our 1-0 win in the second leg back at Stamford Bridge.
Sjoeke Nusken scored the only goal in that encounter and was one of our most consistent performers across the month. Our fans voted the German midfielder in third place in the March Player of the Month poll, earning 12 per cent of the total.
March also saw 19-year-old Veerle Buurman cement her place as a regular performer in the first team, and she caught the attention of our supporters with her standout displays. The Netherlands international defender took second place in our March vote, coming out with a 17 per cent share.
But there was a clear winner of the Chelsea Women's Player of the Month award for March, and it goes to Lauren James, as our number 10 took 64 per cent of supporters' votes.
The award caps off a fantastic month for LJ, after she signed a new contract with Chelsea just two days before the League Cup final victory. This is her second consecutive Player of the Month award, with February also seeing our fans vote her into first position.
Congratulations, Lauren!
