Eidur wins it late – February 2004
Our first trip to Eastlands, as it was then known, ended in a 1-0 victory courtesy of Eidur Gudjohnsen’s typically cool finish from a clever Wayne Bridge pass. Carlo Cudicini had made a couple of super saves at 0-0 before the Icelandic striker won it eight minutes from time.
Lamps lashes home - September 2008
Man City’s first home game after being bought by Sheikh Mansour was against Chelsea and though new signing Robinho puts the hosts ahead, we quickly levelled through Ricardo Carvalho. On the hour Frank Lampard produced a fine finish on his left before Nicolas Anelka made sure of an impressive away win.
A bolt from Branna - February 2014
Branislav Ivanovic had a penchant for big goals and he produced one of his very best with a thunderous left-footed strike making the difference in a tight game between two title rivals.
Conte’s Blues at their best - December 2016
A heavyweight battle between the league’s top two in 2016/17 swung Chelsea’s way in the second half. Diego Costa equalised on the hour before he brilliantly assisted Willian, with the goal showing what Antonio Conte’s Blues were all about.
Hazard sparks limbs - December 2016
As the same contest turned feistier in the closing stages, Eden Hazard put the result beyond any doubt with a 90th-minute breakaway goal that sparked pandemonium in the away end.
Alonso snatches victory - May 2021
Our most recent triumph at the Etihad also involved late drama. Man City knew they would seal the title with a win but Thomas Tuchel’s Blues had other ideas. After Hakim Ziyech had equalised midway through the second half, Chelsea pushed for a winner and were rewarded when Marcos Alonso popped up with a close-range finish in stoppage time.
