The Brazilian opened the scoring with just 31 seconds on the clock at Craven Cottage on Monday night, breaking clear from Cole Palmer’s flick to make a flying start to the 2026/27 campaign and set us on our way to a 3-2 victory.

It was officially the earliest goal ever on the Premier League’s opening weekend, but only good enough to come sixth on the all-time list of Chelsea’s fastest goalscorers in that competition.

Chelsea blew Man Utd away on Jose Mourinho’s return to Stamford Bridge with the Red Devils. It was Pedro who got the ball rolling on the thrashing when the visiting defenders dawdled in a moment of miscommunication. There was no such hesitancy from our Spanish forward, who took full advantage to round the keeper and slot in.

It wasn’t to be Chelsea’s day, as Arsenal came back to take the win at Stamford Bridge and go seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but we had got off to the best possible start. That came when Gudjohnsen showed his instincts in the box to control Geremi’s cross brilliantly and fire the opening goal past the keeper.

The Blues went on the attack right from kick-off, giving Dan Petrescu the chance to cross. When United goalkeeper Massimo Taibi came to collect but collided with one of his defenders, Poyet gratefully headed into the empty net.

The Blues were heavy favourites against newly-promoted Nottingham Forest when we met at the Bridge early in the 1998/99 campaign, despite the visitors' decent start to the season. We underlined that status early on, though, with a goal all of Zola’s own making. It was his cross into the box from a throw-in on the left which created the chance. When Forest failed to clear their lines, the Italian was there following in on his own cross to place a first-time finish into the bottom corner.

Chelsea had lost two home games in a row when Leicester came to Stamford Bridge looking to be the next visiting side to inflict pain on the Blues. This time we raced into an early, and unassailable, lead. An early foul gifted us a free-kick on the halfway line and Dennis Wise took the chance to run clear into space. He then picked out a teasing angled cross to the back post, where Spencer floated in the air to meet it and head down into the net.
