Chelsea supporters have voted Cesare Casadei’s long-range spectacular against Peterborough United the best Blues goal scored last month.

Chelsea supporters have voted Cesare Casadei’s long-range spectacular against Peterborough United the best Blues scored last month.

The 19-year-old Italian midfielder was playing for Chelsea Under-21s versus the League One club’s first team in a Papa Johns Trophy tie away from home. Having collected the ball just beyond the halfway line, Casadei advanced before arrowing an unstoppable shot into the top corner from more than 30 yards from goal. Lucas Bergstrom, the on-loan Chelsea goalkeeper who is enjoying a good season at Peterborough, had no chance.

The goal put Chelsea 2-0 up in an eventual 4-2 victory which took our Under-21s into the competition’s round of 16.

Casadei’s goal polled twice the number of votes of the second-place strike which was another from distance, this time from out wide and off the boot of Erin Cuthbert in Chelsea Women’s win over Real Madrid in the Champions League. Cuthbert claimed third place too for her goal at Stamford Bridge against Tottenham.

November is the first time this season the winner has not come from a men’s first team match.
