Ben Chilwell says Chelsea's players and staff are focused on making this afternoon's Carabao Cup final against Liverpool at Wembley a special one for the Blues supporters.

The Blues face Liverpool this afternoon chasing the first trophy of the Mauricio Pochettino era.

Chilwell, who captains the side, is one of just three members of the current squad who also featured in our last major trophy win: the Champions League in Porto three years ago.

The defender knows from past successes how lifting silverware can transform the mood around the club, and he has spoken with his less experienced Chelsea teammates about what to expect in the final.

'We have spoken about it,' said Chilwell. 'I’ve mentioned that when we won the Champions League it brought us and the fans together. It’s a special moment for the club and we’re trying to drive home just what it would mean to the fans.

‘For the players, the staff, everyone associated with Chelsea, it would mean a lot. It would be great for this group to win our first trophy together.

'But we're not getting too far ahead of ourselves. We’ve got a big game ahead of us, we’re in a great position but it’s a big test. But we are fully focused on the game, before thinking about the potential celebrations.'

Liverpool came away as winners when the two sides met in the Premier League last month. However, Chilwell believes that experience will help us this afternoon in our pursuit of the first major trophy of the season.

'It [the loss at Liverpool] was a disappointing day, but you take the positives from that. We didn’t play well and knew exactly where we could improve.

'It’s a different game today. We’ve played well since playing against them. So it’s an exciting day. A Wembley day out on a Sunday afternoon, there’s nothing better so we’re excited.’
