Carney Chukwuemeka believes that the stunning, last-gasp victory over Manchester United could prove to be vital as we head into the final months of the season.
With Conor Gallagher and Cole Palmer having given Chelsea the advantage early on, Chukwuemeka came into the fray with the Blues 3-2 down after the away side overturned our two-goal lead.
Helping his side fight back and find the momentum needed to retake control of the contest, the midfielder saw Palmer equalise from the spot before earning the corner that would eventually lead to the match-winning moment.
Speaking after the breathless Premier League fixture, the 20-year-old hopes that this can give Chelsea a boost as we continue to fight in the top-flight and the FA Cup.
‘It’s a big lift,’ Chukwuemeka began.
‘Of course, we wanted to win the Burnley game, but we drew. Now we have gone and beat Manchester United at home so it’s a big lift going into some big games coming up this month.
‘That was the goal going into the season – to be back in Europe for next season and to win a trophy. We now have two big opportunities to do so.
‘We will keep working hard to achieve that. We just now have to focus on the training sessions going into the next game.’
For Carney personally, it has been a tricky season with injuries blighting a campaign that started with such promise, but the midfielder has remained patient and is excited to play his part in the final months.
He continued: ‘It’s very frustrating. No one likes getting injured. It’s hard to build momentum and rhythm when you’re getting injured, but I always remember that God is always with me and everything happens for a reason.
‘I just have to keep my head up and keep going. I pray and my family help a lot in keeping me focused and happy as well.’
