In our latest Club World Cup diary entry, new arrival Joao Pedro highlights the key role Chelsea supporters will play in our semi-final with Fluminense, his emotions at facing the club where he started his career, and fulfilling his dream.

It’s a surprise to be playing Fluminense tomorrow. When you play for a European team, you expect to play against other European teams. But tomorrow, I play against my first-ever club from Brazil.

It will be fun to see some familiar faces. It’s been a long time since I've been at Fluminense, but playing against my boyhood club with my new team feels like a very full circle.

I have a lot of memories from my time at Fluminense because I grew up there. They gave everything to me when I needed it. I remember my first game against Volta Redonda; I was just 17 and managed to give an assist to my friend Roger Ibanez.

Those are some great memories, and I'll always be grateful for them. But now I’m focused on this new challenge and my supporters in blue.

I think it’s very important to have a connection with the fans because when you are tired, when you have given everything, you take the energy from them onto the pitch. They always support us – and we need them with us to help us reach the final.

I felt the love and support from them as soon as I stepped onto the pitch against Palmeiras. I felt comfortable, and I didn’t feel pressure. I’m just a guy who realised my dream of playing for a big club.

Tomorrow will be a special moment for everyone. It’s special for me because I get to live my dream at Chelsea. It’s special for my family who will be watching. And it’s special for the fans.

The fans are the reason we play football. Without them, football is not fun. I think it’s really special to play in a semi-final and I’d love to see you there at the MetLife Stadium. Now let’s reach the final!
