Cole Palmer talks about forward thinking in an exclusive interview for the matchday programme this weekend.

The Blues No.10 is showing signs of being back to his best in recent weeks, scoring a hat-trick at Wolves before pulling the strings as we dismantled Aston Villa in the second half of a 4-1 win in our last Premier League game.

He says he has eyes only for what’s coming next after a frustrating spell on the sidelines earlier in the campaign.

‘Yeah, I’m definitely looking ahead, because I feel like I’ve turned a corner,’ he says. ‘I just need to stay fit and perform.’

That tendency to look forward is mirrored by his approach on the pitch too.

‘The new head coach has given us patterns, especially to the attackers,’ he explains. ‘When people are running behind it does create space, so when players do that I feel like it helps me.

‘There’s always options to play forward, so my first thought is always forward and see what the best option is.’

In an interview in which he also discusses his link-up play with Joao Pedro and the midfielders behind him, as well as Liam Rosenior’s man management, Palmer reveals what really makes him tick.

‘When I’ve got confidence and I feel free, I can play my best football.’

Elsewhere in the programme, editor Richard Godden reflects on Eidur Gudjohnsen’s brilliance in our Legacy feature and we also celebrate Chelsea Foundation on a matchday that is dedicated to their wonderful work and the impact it has on so many communities.

There’s all the stats and facts you need about the big game and columns from across the club to keep you up to date with all the goings on at Stamford Bridge, Cobham and Kingsmeadow, plus a healthy dose of nostalgia.
