Cole Palmer reached a significant Chelsea milestone this evening, as he made his 100th appearance for the Blues by starting and scoring in our UEFA Champions League opener against Bayern Munich.
Palmer was signed from Manchester City on the final day of the 2023 summer transfer window. He required little time to make a significant impact.
After getting off the mark for Chelsea during an away win over Burnley, Palmer's next four goals in blue were scored against Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Manchester United. Clearly, he thrived on the biggest of stages.
Palmer's influence grew as the campaign progressed. There was a brace at Luton Town – and the first use of his now trademark 'cold' celebration – while there was a memorable hat-trick against Manchester United and four goals in a trouncing of Everton.
He ended his first campaign at Stamford Bridge having netted 25 goals in all competitions – and then went and scored in the 2024 European Championship final for England against Spain.
Palmer picked up where he left off at the start of the 2024/25 season. He registered a goal and three assists in an away win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, struck away to West Ham United, and then became the first player in Premier League history to score four times in the first half when he battered Brighton & Hove Albion.
There was a memorable brace, including a cheeky Panenka penalty, to complete a convincing fightback over Tottenham, and by mid-January he had scored 14 times in all competitions.
While the goals didn't come as freely during the second half of last season, his influence remained as we claimed a top-four finish in the Premier League and won the UEFA Conference League final, in which he created two of our four goals.
Then, at the FIFA Club World Cup, Cole saved the best for last, as he produced a man-of-the-match display in the final, scoring twice and creating a goal for Joao Pedro as we defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to be crowned world champions.
His 99th outing in Chelsea colours came at the weekend, against Brentford, and was marked with a customary composed finish. Aappearance 100 came this evening at the Allianz Arena.
While the result wasn't what the Blues or our No.10 would've wanted, Palmer did score on his first Champions League outing for Chelsea. The goal was his 45th for the Blues in all competitions.
