Cole Palmer netted a first-half hat-trick to help the Blues overcome Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-1 this afternoon – and in the process set two new Chelsea records.
Palmer broke the deadlock at Molineux in the 12th minute, converting a penalty after Matt Doherty had brought down Joao Pedro.
The England international's second goal also arrived from the spot, again after Joao Pedro had been fouled inside the Wolves' penalty area.
Palmer's third came in open play, as he finished a wonderfully executed team move. It had started with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez before the ball was moved out to Enzo Fernandez. He advanced and found the underlapping Marc Cucurella, whose cutback was emphatically finished by our No.10.
Palmer's treble put us firmly in control of the game and ultimately helped us make it four successive Premier League wins under Liam Rosenior.
It also ensured he further added his name to the Chelsea – and Premier League – record books.
Palmer is now the only player in Premier League history to score three hat-tricks in the first half of a match (the others coming against Everton and Brighton and Hove Albion).
He has also scored more Premier League hat-tricks (four) than any Chelsea player, surpassing Blues legends Didier Drogba, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Frank Lampard, who all netted three.
Congratulations, Cole!
