To celebrate Cole Palmer’s century of Chelsea appearances, we have picked out what we think are our No.10’s best moments so far in blue. It was not easy...
Palmer has been a joy to watch since moving to Stamford Bridge in September 2023. He has established himself as one of the greatest players in world football and made his iconic ‘Cold’ celebration renowned around the globe, with many elite athletes copying it.
Palmer made his 100th appearance for Chelsea against Bayern Munich on Wednesday evening and marked the occasion by scoring his first Champions League goal for the Blues. It was 45th in all competitions for Chelsea.
Narrowing down the multitude of memorable moments Cole has produced in a blue shirt to ten proved a challenge, but we have done our best.
For reference, they are limited to things he has done on the pitch!
Ice cool against his former club – 12 November 2023
Palmer had already converted three penalties for us with the minimum of fuss, including against Arsenal and Tottenham, but this was a different story.
An engrossing game against champions Manchester City at Stamford Bridge had gone the distance. Deep into stoppage time, the Blues were trailing 4-3 when Armando Broja was felled inside the box.
Against his former club, Palmer stepped up and thumped his penalty into the net to secure the draw, showcasing his calmness under the most intense pressure in the process.
The birth of the ‘Cold’ celebration – 30 December 2023
Palmer netted his maiden Chelsea brace in a 3-2 win away to Luton Town at the end of 2023. It is a day best remembered because after opening the scoring, Palmer crossed his arms and rubbed his shoulders to mimic being cold.
He revealed it was a tribute to his good friend Morgan Rogers, who had done similar while on loan at Middlesbrough, but it quickly became Palmer’s trademark.
Athletes ranging from 200m Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo to Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson have copied it, and for youngsters all over the world, it is the go-to celebration.
100:39 – 4 April 2024
A bonkers game at the Bridge had swung this way and that when Palmer somehow stole it for the Blues in stoppage time.
After equalising from the spot to make it 3-3 on 100 minutes, remarkably, there was still time for Palmer to win it, with his deflected effort fizzing into the Matthew Harding Stand net and sparking wild scenes on and off the pitch.
The perfect treble – 15 April 2024
In our next home game, Palmer bagged four goals, including a perfect hat-trick inside 29 minutes. Wow! The first was a pinpoint left-footed strike after some neat skill, the second a close-range header, and the hat-trick goal a beautiful lob from distance on his right.
A second-half penalty added gloss to what truly was an all-timer of a Premier League performance.
A class apart - 25 August 2024
In our first away game of the 2024/25 campaign, away to Wolves, Palmer had both the presence of mind and the technical ability to half-volley a lob over Jose Sa as we broke at speed.
Palmer was far from done for the day. As the goals continued to flow, he set up all three for Noni Madueke in the second half as we ran out 6-2 winners.
The first-half quadruple – 28 September 2024
Palmer became the first player in Premier League history to score four goals in the first half of a game as we beat Brighton 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.
It was yet another virtuoso display to add to his burgeoning collection, with the pick of a bunch a long-range free-kick that completed his hat-trick.
Through the eye of the needle – 27 October 2024
It’s not just about scoring for Palmer. A regular creator of goals, this pass was actually a pre-assist, but it most certainly belongs in this list.
In a home game against Newcastle last season, Palmer received the ball in our defensive third with his back to goal. He drifted away from two black-and-white shirts before freeing Pedro Neto in behind with an extraordinary pass.
It was weighted to perfection, bypassing a pair of defenders and resulting in an easy finish for Nicolas Jackson.
The Panenka – 8 December 2024
In the midst of a frenzied London derby, Palmer was the coolest man in the capital.
We had overturned a two-goal deficit to lead 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when Moises Caicedo was brought down in the box.
Palmer stepped up to take the penalty and executed a textbook Panenka, deftly dinking the ball down the middle and running over to celebrate with the Chelsea fans – who were enjoying a very satisfying derby victory indeed!
Crossing Chelsea to glory – 28 May 2025
Palmer got his hands on silverware for the first time as a Chelsea player following our Conference League victory over Real Betis, in which he had played a decisive role.
The Blues were trailing 1-0 in the second half when his teasing cross was nodded into the net by Enzo Fernandez. Shortly afterwards, more skill created space from where he could deliver to Jackson to convert.
It was no surprise our no.10 picked up the Player of the Match prize on the showpiece occasion.
Club World Cup final – 13 July 2025
It was a similar story in New York six weeks later. This time, the Club World Cup was on the line, and Palmer ripped through Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
In the first half, Palmer produced two precise – and near identical – finishes to establish a two-goal lead for the Blues, and then delicately teeing up Joao Pedro to make it 3-0.
It was a showing worthy of the global arena, and epitomised Palmer’s comfort competing against the world’s best.
