Levi Colwill says he and his Chelsea teammates have greatly benefitted from the physical and tactical work undertaken in pre-season so far.

Colwill is preparing for his second campaign as a member of the senior Chelsea squad and he is doing so with a new head coach, Enzo Maresca.

Speaking during his pre-match media duties ahead of our third fixture of pre-season, against Club America, Colwill detailed what life has been like under Maresca.

‘Working under the gaffer has been really good so far,’ said Colwill.

‘Most people can see what he is bringing. Things are moving in the right direction definitely, but it will not all get together in one night.

‘We want to be in the best form and confident in the style of play. I wouldn't say it's been a heavy pre-season. None of us are complaining.

‘They have such good staff behind the gaffer and have been working with us individually and as units. We have the best staff to help us when we need anything. I have really enjoyed it so far.'

Colwill started against both Wrexham and Celtic on the left of defence, a position he was regularly deployed last season.

Whether left-back is Maresca’s preferred role for Colwill in this Chelsea team long term remains to be seen, but whatever happens the 21-year-old is keen to have a positive impact.

'I played left-back a lot last season but I am willing to play anywhere to help the team.

‘If the gaffer needs me to play in goal, I will play for him! That’s the person I am. If it is going to help the team win games then I am more than happy to play there.'
