Levi Colwill has trained with the senior England side this week, the national team have confirmed.
The Chelsea defender, who shone on loan with Brighton this term, was part of the England Under-21 side preparing for the European Championships but has been allowed to move up from Lee Carsley’s side to join in and help Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions at St George’s Park.
This comes following the news that Colwill’s loan team-mate at Brighton, Lewis Dunk, failed to report for international duty due to injury.
Colwill joins his Chelsea colleague Conor Gallagher in the senior side for training this week. England travel to Malta on Friday, before hosting North Macedonia at Wembley the following Monday, with both games European Championship qualifiers.
Congratulations, Levi!
At the weekend at their training centre at St George’s Park, England Under-21s played a behind-closed-doors warm-up match against Japan. The Young Lions side featured Noni Madueke from the start and Colwill and Lewis Hall came on as subs for the final 15 minutes. For Hall it was his first action at this level.
Japan ran 2-0 winners but only good goalkeeping on two occasions had prevented Madueke giving England the lead.
