The Ecuadorian international was absent for our opening two fixtures of the season – a Premier League win over Fulham and a Carabao Cup victory over Luton Town – but returned to the squad last weekend as we faced Brighton and Hove Albion.

Caicedo was introduced as a second-half substitute against the Seagulls, but was forced off after just 13 minutes with what Alonso described as an issue that 'wasn't something new'.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's trip to the Emirates Stadium, Alonso was asked whether Caicedo would be involved. He replied: 'We will check tomorrow. Tomorrow is the last decision for the squad on Sunday.

'We need to not be worried. These things can happen and we need to check. Tomorrow we will make the final decision.'

Alonso also discussed another player who has missed the start of the season, striker Emmanuel Emegha. After arriving from Strasbourg in the summer, an injury sustained in pre-season has delayed the Netherlands international's Chelsea bow.

However, Alonso insists Emegha will get his chance once he returns to full fitness, and is excited about what the forward can add to the team.

'I see him playing on the last line, and when he has space he is a big threat,' Alonso added.

'He has been here for a few months and had an injury that meant he missed part of pre-season, unfortunately for him. But he’s young, and he has very special qualities.

'We hope that he feels better and he takes those steps so that he’s going to be more involved. Players that are young and come here need to be patient, but knowing that for sure they will have their opportunity.'
