The Blues are preparing to face Bristol City in the Continental Tyres Cup today, with Emma Hayes’s side looking to become the first team to retain the title since 2013.

In last season’s success, Chelsea faced Arsenal at the City Ground in Nottingham and here we take a look back at how things unfolded in our first triumph in this competition.

In front of a record attendance for a Conti Cup final, Bethany England was the player stole the headlines as her two goals crowned Chelsea.

It took nine minutes to open the scoring, with England scoring a typical poacher’s goal that took her season tally up to 20.

In a pulsating 90 minutes, Arsenal had three good chances stopped by Blues goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Burger and with five minutes left on the clock, the Gunners equalised. Leah Williamson’s scuffed effort made everyone believe that extra-time was inevitable.

However, England had to have the final say.

As the clock crept into the 90th minute, Sam Kerr and Maren Mjelde combined on the right and created space for the Norwegian to whip a cross to the far post, where a stretching England prodded home to secure the win and spark wild celebrations.

The Blues head into Sunday’s final in good form and will be looking to secure our second title of the season, following our Community Shield triumph at the start of this campaign.
