Enzo Fernandez ensured Chelsea's representation at the Copa America will go the distance after Argentina got past Canada in Tuesday's semi-final.

Enzo and his team-mates are now just one game away from becoming South American champions for the 16th time after goals from Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi earned a 2-0 win.

The Chelsea midfielder played a crucial role in the decisive second goal that gave Argentina breathing space. In the 51st minute, Enzo's shot from close range was deflected in by Inter Miami forward Messi past Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau.

The reigning world champions had already got themselves in front midway through the first half, when Manchester City's Alvarez fired home from close range after latching onto a clever through ball.

It hadn't been entirely comfortable for Argentina until that point, with Canada having an early sight of goal through forward Jacob Shaffelburg, who dragged his shot narrowly wide.

But once they got in front, the pre-tournament favourites never looked like rescinding their lead.

Enzo completed the full 90 minutes, getting the vital assist when Messi got a faint touch on his right-footed shot from just inside the area.

Holders Argentina will now face either Uruguay or Colombia, who meet in the other semi-final on Wednesday night.

The final will take place on Sunday evening in Miamim Florida, with kick-off at 1am Monday morning UK time (8pm local time).
