Marc Cucurella has opened up honestly about a tough first season at the Blues following his move in summer 2022, while also speaking about the first few weeks under Mauricio Pochettino’s stewardship.

The Spaniard freely admits he did not showcase his best performances on the pitch last time out but with the arrival of a new head coach, a clean slate has been handed to the Chelsea squad.

The left-back shared his thoughts on pre-season so far, when he spoke at our pre-Wrexham press conference earlier on Tuesday.

'The first few weeks haven’t been easy. We have worked a lot, and run a lot. We need this physicality; we have the quality but we do not stay at the same level and the most important thing is to stay fit and start to play,’ he said to journalists.

‘We run a lot, we do double sessions. You see your team-mates suffer, in pain and run a lot and this creates good relationships. This is one of the most important things. If you don't have this, it is impossible at this level.’

Cucurella was also asked to assess his first year in west London.

‘I want to stay at Chelsea. I am very happy here, it was not an easy season. When you arrive at a big club you feel a lot of pressure and when the results don't arrive you feel it even more. This is part of life, and we learn to improve.

‘One of the most important things in players in confidence. Confidence is one of the most important things and we have new season and new coach.’
