Marc Cucurella has commented on his involvement in a dramatic ending to a dramatic home debut, and our new signing has also revealed where he feels most comfortable in the team.

The Spaniard spoke at a press conference at Cobham this afternoon before training, answering the assembled media’s questions.

Having declared his delight at joining Chelsea earlier this month, Cucurella was asked about the moment on Sunday when Cristian Romero dragged him to the ground by his hair.

‘For me it was clear and the video was clear, sometimes referees make good decisions and sometimes they don’t, but this is not my problem, I am focused on the game,’ said Marc.

‘Maybe in the next games we need to work hard to not concede in the last minute. I saw in the stadium they were checking for a red card and for me it was very clear, but this is football. In this game it was an error, in another game the referee would take a good decision.

‘I have no problem with him [Romero], it was only one action in the game, but maybe it was an important action because it’s possible to change the final result.’

Cucurella confirmed he would not be cutting his hair in the wake of the incident, so we can expect to see his all-action style for many years yet! Where he is deployed on the pitch, though, could vary as he explained when considering his preferred role.

‘The three positions on the left side are good for me. My best position is left-back in a back four, because I played all my career in the academies in this position.

‘I have more movement and stay more comfortable, but if the gaffer puts me in another position I run as well!

‘I’m very happy to be here. It’s a lot of money and a big responsibility for me, but Todd and the gaffer were so interested in me coming here. I need to work hard, adapt to the team and have this will to win and play good for the club.’
