Having kept qualification for next season’s Champions League in our own hands, Marc Cucurella has called on the Blues to make a big final effort in order to realise our ambitions.

The Spaniard’s fine header settled a tight game against Manchester United on Friday evening. He has been a regular source of goals this season – that was his seventh – and he put the link-up with Reece James down to preparations at Cobham.

‘We work on this in training all the time,’ revealed Cucurella.

‘He knows he needs to put the ball there, and I know I need to arrive in that position. It’s a goal we are working on during the week.

‘I’m very happy. The team deserved this moment. It’s true we suffered a little bit. We didn’t start the game well and we lost a bit of confidence, but we knew we needed to stay in the game and then we would have the chance to score a goal and win it.’

Having done exactly that, Cucurella turned his attention to the mouthwatering fixtures that await. Champions League football and silverware are on the line when we play Nottingham Forest and Real Betis respectively. Our left-back is primed for the challenge.

‘It was a very important win. We have been working for this moment all the season. Now we have two more games left. Everything depends on us.

‘We need to push hard in the last weeks, give the last effort, and finish the season strong.’
