Jamie Cumming and Henry Lawrence are the joint-recipients of the Loan Performance of the Week as MK Dons secured a precious 1-0 victory over Morecambe to move further away from the League One relegation zone.

It was a largely positive weekend for those loanees in international action, as Andrey Santos made his senior Brazil debut, Ethan Ampadu finished the game as Wales captain as they snatched a point in Croatia, Levi Colwill impressed for England Under-21s, and Romelu Lukaku netted a hat-trick for Belgium in Sweden.

On the domestic front, there were a smattering of fixtures in Leagues One and Two, with one of the biggest coming at the MK Dons Stadium on Saturday.

The Buckinghamshire side, who started the day a place above the relegation zone in 20th, hosted Morecambe in 22nd. MK Dons were hoping to build on back-to-back 1-0 wins against Cambridge and fellow relegation contenders Accrington Stanley.

Cumming started between the posts while Lawrence lined up at right wing-back. Cumming was playing his 46th game of the season in all competitions, and Lawrence his 34th.

The Dons were on the front from the off, with Lawrence a useful outfit wide on the right flank, but they had to wait until shortly before the hour to make the breakthrough, Jonathan Leko scoring the only goal.

In response, Morecambe increased their attacking threat and it needed a strong Cumming punch to clear a dangerous cross, with the keeper also saving well to preserve their lead. He now has three clean sheets in a row at a time when he and his loan club needed them most. It is the first time they have achieved that feat since April 2021.

It finished 1-0, meaning the Dons have picked up nine points in the space of just over a fortnight to move away from danger. They are now four points outside the relegation zone with eight League One games remaining.
