While really proud of our Champions League victory over Lyon in midweek, Erin Cuthbert insists it’s time to put that win to the back of our minds and focus solely on Sunday’s huge WSL clash with Manchester City.

The Blues head to Manchester on Sunday afternoon looking to take a big step towards the title by defeating Gareth Taylor’s side, with Cuthbert under no illusions that a difficult challenge awaits us in the North-West.

Emma Hayes’s side come into the game in confident mood following our 1-0 Champions League win in France against a very strong Lyon side and while Erin was delighted with that result, the Scotland international knows we can’t rest on our laurels with such a big fixture on the horizon.

‘We had the Thursday after Lyon off, so it was good to reflect on that game then,’ she told us ahead of City. ‘It was a brilliant win for us but you’re only as good as your next game and they’re coming thick and fast now.

‘We’re really proud of our performance against Lyon but we have to turn our focus to Sunday now because it’s a huge game for us.

‘It’s going to be a big test for us on Sunday, that’s for sure. Whenever you play Manchester City, you know you are in for a difficult game.

‘I certainly know how it feels to be a big team that’s been knocked out of a competition, so I’m sure they’re going to be really disappointed with that and equally really determined to put things right against us.

‘We’re expecting a really tough game. They’ve had a week of recovery, whereas we haven’t but we won’t be making any excuses because we have a strong squad and we have to be ready for City’s challenge.

‘They’re a top side and they’re knocking on the door behind us in the WSL, so we’re under no illusions that we’re coming into a really difficult match but it’s one we’re really looking forward to as well.’
