Erin Cuthbert says Chelsea Women have destiny in their own hands with Arsenal the visitors to Kingsmeadow for our penultimate Women’s Super League fixture of the season today (Sunday)

Emma Hayes’ side are going in search of an unprecedented fourth consecutive WSL title and maximum points from our remaining two matches against Arsenal and Reading would see us crowned champions.

There are permutations attached to this afternoon’s London derby against Arsenal, which kicks-off at 12.30pm (UK time) A win for the Blues and dropped points for Manchester United against Manchester City in the evening kick-off would ensure we retain our crown.

Having secured our third consecutive FA Cup trophy at Wembley last weekend, there was little time to celebrate and Cuthbert says it wasn’t difficult for the squad to refocus with a league fixture to play just three days later.

‘It was relatively easy for us because we had a midweek game against West Ham. If there was anything to park it was done during that game. We are really focused, we know the task in hand and we know what we need to do. It’s in our hands and this is the moment our team relishes.

‘We really enjoy the pressure, we really enjoy the last part of the season. Emma always asks what our motivation is and we’re a different team at the end of the season. We really look forward to the business end of the season.’

We have faced Arsenal on three separate occasions across three competitions already this season. Cuthbert knows the threat they will pose to our title challenge but insists there is a burning desire ensure we come out on top on this occasion.

‘You want to play in a London derby, you want to play in the biggest games. Arsenal are on a really good run at the moment considering the injuries and the luck they’ve had this season. They’ve had the upper hand against us in the games that we’ve played this season.

‘We want to change that. We want to make sure that when the final whistle goes on Sunday, the three points are staying at Kingsmeadow.’

It’s first against third at Kingsmeadow at lunchtime while second place Manchester United take on Manchester City in fourth this evening. Cuthbert says the unpredictable nature of the title race is good for the neutral, but for the players it’s all about taking care of business.

‘I’m preparing for it to go all the way. Manchester United showed their qualities against us in the FA Cup and there are two teams playing each other that are evenly matched like us and Arsenal. It could go either way and it’s anybody’s guess. For the neutral, this is what everybody wants to see.

‘This is the excitement of the league that everyone has been waiting for. We’ve finally got that but as players we need to take care of our business. We know we have the chance to win the league with two wins from two games and if we do that, the league is ours.’
