What was the football match you went to?

I think it was a Man City game at Maine Road. It was at Maine Road, so I was really young then.

What were your first pair of football boots?

They might have been the Reebok Sidewinder. A black pair of boots with a red or yellow stripe, Andy Cole wore them. I think I had the red ones then.

What was the first football kit you owned?

First kit I owned was a Man United kit. A replica one. It was Umbro with Sharp on the front.

What was the first team you played for?

My first team was Fletcher Moss Rangers.

Who was your first coach?

My first coach was Neil Brown at Fletcher Moss Rangers. I owe him a lot, 100 per cent. I still keep in contact with him to this day. We send messages back and forth now and then.

What was the first piece of advice you remember receiving?

Just to enjoy it really. It's probably silly and sounds cliche, but it was to enjoy it, and then obviously the pieces of advice developed later on down the line.

Who was your first friend in football?

It would probably be Rhys Brown, Wes Brown's little brother. We grew up across the road from each other and it was his dad who first took me to Fletcher Moss Rangers as well. So he'd be my first friend.

Who was your first room-mate on away trips?

The first team-mate I roomed with… It would have been Cameron Stewart in the United youth team, back in our academy days.

Who was your first professional goal against?

It was against Stoke City, the same game as my Premier League debut for Man United.

When was the first time someone recognised you in public?

The levels increased after that Stoke game, but there were some hardcore Man United fans who would have been following the youth team back in the day and there was MUTV and all that sort of stuff. I was still in high school when I was playing in the Youth Cup and I scored a winner to get us to final. So around the hardcore United fans who would have been watching MUTV I got spotted a couple of times. I was thinking: ‘This is crazy’!

What was your first emotion when you signed for Chelsea?

Just that it was a privilege, a pride and an honour.
