Danny Welbeck has a rich pedigree in the Carabao Cup, and the striker is hoping to write another chapter in that story when we meet Liverpool tonight.

Welbeck made his professional debut in the competition at 17 and has since lifted the three-handled trophy on two occasions.

The League Cup has also been kind to Welbeck in his short time at Chelsea, with the striker scoring three goals across the wins over Luton Town and Leeds at Stamford Bridge in rounds two and three.

He hopes to continue that good form at Anfield this evening and keep our dream of lifting the first trophy on offer this season alive.

‘To get off the mark was good, and to progress to the next round each time has been good for the club and for the squad,’ said Welbeck.

‘We want to keep on pushing in every single competition that we’re in, and we’ve got a nice tie now in the next round that we’re really looking forward to.

‘It would be incredible to win the competition again,’ added Welbeck. ‘Winning is something that I love to do. To win trophies is what you really push for as a young boy, and when you’re growing up and in your career, you’re always looking to try to win trophies.

‘This is a great opportunity for us, and it would be special for us to try and get a trophy.’

Welbeck knows it is a tall challenge that stands between us and a place in the quarter-finals, but his experience in the game tells him trophies are not won without overcoming some of the best in the business en route.

Having defeated a Leeds side that have lost one league game this season, next up are Liverpool, who also have only been beaten once.

‘To win the competition you’re going to have to face some tough opponents, of which Liverpool are,’ said Welbeck.

‘It’s an exciting tie, we’ve prepared well and we are going to make sure we are ready for it on the day. Progressing into the next round is the main aim.’
