It was a Chelsea debut to remember for Axel Disasi, whose goal at Stamford Bridge ensured the Blues claimed a share of the spoils from a thrilling opening day draw with Liverpool.

The French international, a recent addition from Monaco, pounced from close range to turn the ball beyond Alisson from a corner to cancel out Luis Diaz’s opener for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

It was the least Mauricio Pochettino’s Blues deserved and Disasi revealed after the game that it was written in the stars for him to score on his Premier League debut after being told it would happen by team-mate Ben Chilwell, who joined the defender on post-match media duties after the fixture.

‘Chilly told me yesterday that I would score today, so I think between us we manifested the goal!’ The debutant goalscorer beamed after the game.

‘I’m very happy. It’s an amazing feeling to score on my debut and I’m really proud of the team because I think we played a very good game, especially in the second half.

‘I thought we played some really good football after half-time and on another day, could have won the game. There are positives for us to take into the next game and it is a really good sign for the future.’

With Disasi revealing that Chilwell predicted him to score, we asked the England left-back if that was truly the case and also pushed him for his reflections on the thrilling opening day clash that ultimately saw the points shared between the Blues and the Reds and whether his disallowed goal should have stood.

‘That’s right!’ Ben said of his prediction of Disasi scoring. ‘We worked on set-pieces on Saturday in training like we always do and Axel was sticking them all away, so I told him after the session that I thought he would score and it proved to be the case.

‘As for the goal, it’s a tough one. At first I actually thought I was offside because I could only see one side of the pitch and didn’t know what was happening around me but when you go through, and eventually score, you don’t even comprehend that the goal could go to VAR. I was enjoying the moment as you could see from my celebration but unfortunately it just wasn’t to be.

‘It was a positive day though, even though we didn’t get the three points. It felt like a solid performance and I felt we were the better side overall, especially in the second-half.

‘We created a lot of chances and I had one myself in the second half that I was disappointed not to take actually.’

‘Don’t worry, you will get one next week,’ Axel interjected. ‘I’ll manifest it for you this time!’

We won’t argue with that, Axel!
