Chelsea is pleased to confirm the signing of France international Axel Disasi from Monaco.

The centre-back has agreed a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge and arrives with a wealth of top-level experience. Disasi has made 130 appearances in Ligue 1, been capped four times by France, and was part of his country’s squad for last year’s World Cup in Qatar.

Co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley said: ‘Axel has showcased his quality over several seasons in France and that has deservedly led to recognition on the international stage.

‘He is ready to take the next step in his career and we are delighted that will be with Chelsea. We welcome him to the club and look forward to him joining up with Mauricio Pochettino and his new teammates in the days ahead.’

Born in Gonesse in the Paris suburbs, Disasi started his career with Paris FC and made his debut in the French second tier in 2015. A transfer to Reims followed and the centre-back helped the club secure promotion to Ligue 1 as champions at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

A move to Monaco occurred after a breakthrough Ligue 1 campaign. Disasi went on to make 129 appearances in all competitions for the Monegasques and his performances caught the eye of France head coach Didier Deschamps.

Disasi was selected for the 2022 World Cup and became the first French international debutant during a World Cup since 1966 after featuring against Tunisia,. The 25-year-old would go on to make two further appearances in the tournament as France reached the final and finished as runners-up.

A formidable presence in the air, an intelligent reader of the game, and a defender capable of being used a right-back when required, Disasi will now test himself against Premier League attackers under Pochettino.

Welcome to Chelsea, Axel!
