Ellie Carpenter hailed a new-look Chelsea side after she scored a brace in a resounding 6-2 win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
The Blues have netted 25 goals in our unbeaten start to the season, winning eight out of our ten matches. Carpenter has featured in all ten games and has three goals and three assists to her name.
The right wing-back arrived from Lyon at the beginning of last season and can see the difference in the team’s performances this time around.
‘I would say it's like a new Chelsea,’ she said after Sunday's victory. ‘We're creating our own legacy, our own type of season this year. We're the 2026/27 Chelsea.
‘It's a new era, and this season we are really working collectively; everyone is together, and we’re taking things game by game. We don't want to look too far ahead of ourselves. We’ll just continue to try and put in the good performances.’
Chelsea had 20 players away on international duty across the world last week, returning only two days before we faced Tottenham in Women’s Super League action. Head coach Sonia Bompastor described the biggest challenge she faced during that period as ‘reconnecting quickly with the game model.'
For that reason alone, Carpenter was proud of how the team responded to the challenge after a tough first half in which we went in all square at 1-1 at the interval.
‘It was a real team performance, especially after the international break,’ she explained. ‘Sometimes it can take a little bit to get going as a team.
‘But we had a lot of different goalscorers, and the impact off the bench was great. I was very happy to score. I have been working a lot in the final third this season, so I’m very happy to contribute to the win.’
Also netting a brace on Sunday was Lauren James, who scored from the tightest of angles and converted another difficult chance in the second half.
Carpenter paid tribute to her talented team-mate and explained why she loves being on the same team as the Chelsea number ten.
‘Yeah, she's amazing,’ the Australian said. ‘Incredible footballer. I love watching her play when I'm on the pitch. She makes it look so easy; she's so talented, and I’m so happy she's a Blue.’
