Ellie Carpenter was proud to score her first goal for Chelsea, which helped the Blues secure a hard-fought 2-0 victory over London City Lionesses at Stamford Bridge.
The Australian international was able to ghost in unmarked at the back post to convert Sandy Baltimore's cross in the fourth minute of yesterday's clash, which put us on the path to another three points in the Women's Super League.
And while Carpenter was delighted to get off the mark for Chelsea, she explained why any personal accolades give way to a wider team effort.
'I think the main thing is for us to get three points, however that may come about,' she said. 'If anyone scores or assists, it's all for the team. I'm very proud to score my first Chelsea goal.'
Blues head coach Sonia Bompastor said after the victory that she felt there was an element of fatigue within the squad, after 18 players were away representing their countries across the world during the international break.
Carpenter echoed that sentiment, but insisted performances would continue to improve as the season progresses.
'We're really happy with that result,' she said. 'Obviously, I think after the international break, it's always really hard to come back together, and there's a lot of fatigue. Some girls only arrived yesterday, and some the day before.
'Today it was a hard-fought team performance, and we're really happy with the three points. Obviously, we have a big squad and there were a couple of rotations to the team, but I think those relationships will become more fluid as the season goes on and the more games that we have together.'
London City gave a good account of themselves in their first Women's Super League clash against the Blues following their promotion.
Carpenter praised our newest derby rivals, while also reiterating that the opposition's competence highlighted just how well the Blues fared.
'They came out high-pressing us a lot,' she said. 'I think we ended up coming up with solutions a bit more as the game went on and in the second half.
'They're a great side, and they definitely caused us some problems. So credit to us for sticking together and keeping it a clean sheet as well.'
