The Chelsea squad number Emi Martinez will wear following his transfer from Aston Villa has been confirmed.

Martinez completed his switch to Stamford Bridge this morning. The 33-year-old, who lifted the FIFA World Cup with Argentina in 2022 and won the UEFA Europa League with Villa last season, has signed a three-year contract with the Blues.

‘It’s incredible,' Martinez said in his first interview as a Chelsea player, which you can watch above. 'It’s been an amazing few days. Obviously, it happened really quickly, but I'm delighted to be at this football club.

'I’ve been in England for nearly 17 years and to play for Chelsea is a dream for me. I’m just over the moon and can’t wait to get started.’

Martinez will now begin working with his new team-mates under Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso and when he represents the Blues for the first time, he will do so wearing our No.26 shirt.

It is a squad number that was most recently worn by Levi Colwill, but made famous at Stamford Bridge by John Terry, who worked with Martinez at Aston Villa.
