Chelsea Women boss Emma Hayes has been named the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Manager of the Month for October after winning all three matches, keeping our unbeaten start to the 2019/20 season intact.
The Chelsea manager who is in her seventh season at Chelsea, beat off competition from Arsenal’s Joe Montemurro and Casey Stoney of Manchester United to be awarded with the honour.
Hayes’ team have been in fine form throughout the month having taken maximum points from our three matches.
The Blues triumphed 2-1 against current champions Arsenal at Kingsmeadow at the start of October. We then travelled to Championship side Crystal Palace for our second group game in the Continental Tyres Cup where we comfortably won 3-0.
Another away trip across London followed and we made the journey to Rush Green to face West Ham in the WSL, and the Blues came away with a 3-1 victory.
The winner was decided by fans votes online combined with those from a panel of selected football experts.
Hayes was pleased to receive the prize but paid tribute to her coaching staff around her and thanked them for all their efforts.
‘This is a team sport and the efforts of the team off the pitch, all of my staff have been instrumental to the start of our season.
‘If I could take the award and cut it up into several pieces for all of the people that work at the club and for me I would because for that reason that is why we have done so well.’
The Chelsea boss recalled her best moment throughout October and it was no surprise that it was overcoming fellow league contenders Arsenal.
‘It has got to be beating Arsenal,’ she said. ‘Knowing that we were the last team to beat them 12 months prior to that – it was an epic game, really closely contested and we produced enough quality to win that game.’
Chelsea FC manager, Frank Lampard, won the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month award for October, after a 100 per cent record in the league that month too.
Hayes’ squad return to WSL action on Sunday 17 November when we welcome Manchester United to Kingsmeadow, which kicks off at 2pm. Wednesday 20 November, the Blues host Tottenham Hotspur in the Continental Tyres Cup under the lights at our KT1 home. Kick-off is at 7pm and tickets for both games can be purchased here.
