The club can today confirm that forward Emma Thompson has completed a permanent move to Southampton of the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Thompson joined Chelsea from Reading aged 13 and has been part of the Academy since 2016. She proved her ability in front of goal and was the club’s top goalscorer in the FA WSL Academy league during the 2021/22 campaign.

The 19-year-old made her first team debut for the Blues during the Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round victory against Aston Villa in January 2022, where she came off the bench as a second-half substitute as we ran out 3-1 winners.

She signed a two-year senior contract in the summer of 2022 before joining Lewes for the 2022/23 season to gain first-team experience, scoring four goals during her time with the Championship outfit in East Sussex.

Everyone at Chelsea would like to thank Emma for her contributions in blue, and we wish her every success for the next chapter with Southampton.
