It is always a spine-tingling moment when your country’s national anthem is played before a big international fixture, and for Enzo Fernandez it spurred him on to represent Argentina on the global stage.

The Chelsea midfielder is currently appearing at his second World Cup, with Argentina trying to retain the crown they won in Qatar four years ago. Egypt provide their next obstacle at this summer’s tournament, with kick-off at 5pm UK time on Tuesday.

Before setting off to North America, we spoke to Enzo about what it feels like to play for his country, and also asked him for his standout World Cup memories to date.

‘I always remember when Argentina sang the anthem,’ says Enzo in the interview, which you can enjoy in full above.

‘I was watching TV and my dream was, I could be there playing in the World Cup, a Copa America, playing for the national team.

‘So luckily, that dream came true.’
