Enzo Maresca has confirmed which goalkeeper will be between the posts against Bayern Munich tomorrow and discussed Cole Palmer's chances of making the starting line-up.
Chelsea are in Germany to kick off our UEFA Champions League campaign with a massive away fixture against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Speaking to the media on his arrival in Bavaria, Maresca delivered the latest team news, which included the latest on Cole Palmer, who returned from injury off the bench in Saturday's draw with Brentford, as our head coach looks to field his strongest XI again.
‘In every game, such as against Brentford, we try with our best XI,' said Maresca. 'Game-by-game, you have to manage different problems.
'In the last game, Cole wasn’t 100 per cent fit to play 90 minutes and different players were out, such as Estevao [Willian], for instance. Tomorrow, we will put out our best XI for the game.
'Cole three days ago didn’t play from the start because he wasn’t able to do that, so we will see tomorrow.’
Our head coach also confirmed whether Robert Sanchez or Filip Jorgensen will be starting in goal for the Blues at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening, after the two keepers rotated between competitions last season.
‘Tomorrow, Rob will start, but for sure with the amount of games we have Filip is going to play games in the Premier League, Champions League, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.
'We have so many games and, for sure, Robert cannot play all of them,' explained Enzo.
The changing goalkeeper was part of the squad rotation Maresca employed throughout our successful campaign last season, as we triumphed in the UEFA Conference League, although he admitted the level of opponents we will face in the Champions League this term make that more challenging.
He added: ‘It helps a lot if you are able to rotate players. At the beginning of the season, maybe you can go with the same players, but it’s a long season with many games so you have to rotate.
'But it is something that is dictated game by game and it’s not something you can plan, because planning for a problem or injury is not possible. So we will try to rotate players knowing that the UCL is a bit different from last season’s competition.’
