Enzo Maresca says a decision over Pedro Neto's fitness will be made following today's training session at Cobham, but Blues midfielder Romeo Lavia is ruled out of tomorrow's Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It is straight back to Premier League action for the Blues following our long midweek trip to Baku, where we drew 2-2 against Qarabag in the Champions League.
Wolves arrive in west London having not claimed a victory in the top flight this season – and without a head coach following the departure of Vitor Pereira. Youth team coaches James Collins and Richard Walker will be in the dugout for the visitors.
With less than 72 hours between the final whistle against Qarabag and kick-off tomorrow evening, Maresca has several selection decisions to make. Whether that includes the return of Neto, who didn't travel to Baku due to a 'small issue', depends on today's session at Cobham.
Maresca said: ‘Pedro had a session yesterday with the physio outside on the pitch, it was good. Today he will try with us and then we will take the final decision [as to whether he can face Wolves].
Levi Colwill (knee) and Dario Essugo (thigh) are long-term absentees, while Cole Palmer is continuing his recovery from a groin issue and will not feature at Stamford Bridge tomorrow evening.
Lavia, meanwhile, was withdrawn in the opening minutes of our draw with Qarabag and will be absent against Wolves.
‘We don’t have an update at the moment,' Maresca explained. 'We need to wait still some hours to do all the checks he needs. For sure, he has an injury.
'It’s a shame because we are trying to minimise minutes for him, even with that, he is injured again. But we need to persist until we find the right solution for him.’
