Enzo Maresca has confirmed that forwards Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu are both available for our final two games of the season.
The Blues head to the City Ground on Sunday for a huge Premier League final day with Nottingham Forest, with both sides hoping to secure Champions League football with victory.
Then, a few days later, we head to Poland to take on Real Betis in the Conference League final looking to end the season with European silverware.
Maresca confirmed to the gathered media at Cobham that he will look to rotate his squad for the remaining two games, but started by offering a positive update that both Nkunku and Guiu are fine to be part of the squad.
‘Yes, Christo is available,’ Maresca said. ‘He’s been working with us in the last few days, being part of the training sessions.
‘Marc Guiu is the same. They can both be available for the next game [at Forest].'
Maresca was also asked about Reece James after a journalist highlighted the defender was spotted training individually during Tuesday's session which was open to the media.
‘Reece James is okay, he will be part of the squad,' the Italian explained. 'As I’ve said previously, he has his own programme because we are trying to protect him [after his injury]. We are managing him in both the games and the training sessions that we have. But Reece is fine, and he is available for Sunday.’
Chelsea head into the game in fifth place – the final spot for Champions League football – and on 66 points. Forest are a point behind in seventh place, while Aston Villa [sixth] and Newcastle [fifth] are either side of us, also on 66 points.
Victory will almost certainly guarantee us Champions League football for next season, such is our superior goal difference to Aston Villa, but Maresca knows how important this game is and how things can twist and turn on the final day.
And with a Conference League final against Real Betis on the horizon just three days later, the head coach confirmed he will look to rotate his players for that match.
‘It shows how difficult the Premier League is, when so many teams are involved [in the hunt for European qualification],' he added. ‘We are happy to be there, and of course we want to finish in the best way.
'We are quite lucky in the sense that if we win, and we do our job, then we don't need to pay attention to other results. If we are not winning, we have to pay attention. We have the privilege that it depends on us.
‘Right now the focus is on Sunday against Forest, that is the most important game right now. I always say that the next fixture is always the most important. Then, we will focus on Wednesday.
‘We will need to make changes for these games, for sure. We will need to rotate and change things for the game [on Wednesday], because we don’t have enough time to recover players and recover the energy in that period from Sunday to Wednesday.’
