Enzo Maresca has welcomed the return of Cole Palmer to his starting XI and explained why he decided to make six changes for today's Premier League clash against Bournemouth.

Chelsea made five alterations to their XI for Wednesday night's disappointing 3-1 defeat away to Leeds United so it came as no surprise to fans that Maresca opted to make a number of changes once again.

Malo Gusto, Wesley Fofana, Reece James, Cole Palmer, Pedro Neto and Alejandro Garnacho all come into the side for today's match against the Cherries but there are only three alterations to the side that drew with Arsenal last weekend.

'I think we have eight or nine players who played when we drew with Arsenal and beat Barcelona so it is six changes [from Leeds but it is just to try to win the game,' Maresca said.

'We all had a bad day and there are many things that were wrong but it is gone now, it is another game and we need to be focused on today's game.'

Palmer returned for his first minutes since September when he came on for the final half an hour at Leeds and Maresca is glad to see the England international back in his starting XI.

Maresca said: 'Absolutely, it is a good feeling. He is a main player for us and I have said many times that we are a better team with Cole in the team. He just now needs the physical condition and we are happy for him.'
