There is no doubt in Enzo Maresca’s mind that Estevao Willian is ready to start games regularly for Chelsea, but the Blues head coach has reiterated that the 18-year-old is still adapting to the rigours of English football.

Estevao has already made 15 appearances since arriving from Palmeiras in the summer, and has required very little time to showcase the outstanding technical ability that first caught Chelsea’s eye.

It's easy to forget, given his performances, the Brazil international only celebrated his 18th birthday in April - and it is with his age and circumstances in mind that Maresca is choosing to manage him carefully.

‘We are doing the best for Estevao, we are helping him adapt to England,’ said Maresca.

‘For sure, he is ready to start. But if Estevao starts, another player is on the bench and that other player will also want to start.

‘Estevao has to adapt. Last week, he was saying it was too cold, but last week was only October. Imagine when it’s December or January! I said to him Now it’s still hot!

‘He is happy and doing fantastic, and he is for sure a talented player for this club.’

In recent weeks, the Blues have saved our best performances for the big occasion, deservedly defeating both Liverpool and Tottenham.

However, we have struggled against the likes of Sunderland and Qarabag, and tomorrow’s visit of winless Wolves presents another banana skin. Maresca wants to see his team back up the victory over Spurs by heading into the international break with three more points.

‘When you do the right things against Liverpool, against Tottenham, you have to confirm that [against Wolves],’ he said. ‘These are the games we need to win.

‘They have changed their manager, but there will be some similarities [to the recent Carabao Cup tie]. It’s difficult for this reason, but also because we played Wednesday night, the players were off yesterday, then we have a small session and a game tomorrow.

‘So the game plan is different, but we need to adapt.’
