There was plenty to please Enzo Maresca in tonight’s five-star showing away to West Ham United, but one aspect of our performance stood out to the head coach above the rest.

The Blues were outstanding at the London Stadium and ran out comfortable winners despite conceding first. We had the satisfaction of five different goalscorers, too, as Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah found the net. We attacked the Hammers with pace and purpose, and it paid off handsomely.

However, above the goals and the margin of victory, it was the manner in which his side responded to Lucas Paqueta’s early opener that really satisfied Maresca.

‘The start was not the best in the way we planned with Cole Palmer’s injury and conceding a goal after five minutes, but the reaction from the players is something that is very good to me,’ he said.

‘Especially you could see how confident they were about the game plan. They stuck to the game plan on and off the ball and continued in the same way. I am very happy, very impressed.’

Palmer was withdrawn from the starting XI shortly before kick-off and replaced in the side by Estevao Willian.

The Brazilian may not have found the net himself, but he did lay on Enzo’s goal to become the youngest Chelsea player to register a Premier League assist. Maresca gave his verdict on the Brazilian's performance.

He said: ‘We conceded a goal because of him, he lost the ball in the build-up, so he needs to make a mistake to learn, but overall the performance was very good.

‘His reaction to that mistake showed how good he is, and the reason why he is here with us.’
