Enzo Maresca admits Nottingham Forest’s ability to change shape, coupled with their determination to bounce back from a disappointing run of results, will add to the challenge when Chelsea travel to the City Ground this afternoon.

The Blues went into the October international break on a high after Estevao Willian’s late winning goal against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

For our next opponents, though, it was a difficult spell, with back-to-back Premier League defeats to Sunderland and Newcastle United, either side of a UEFA Europa League loss against Midtjylland.

However, Maresca won’t be underestimating Forest. And the way they have changed shape during games since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager has given our head coach and his staff plenty to think about.

‘I think when Ange was at Tottenham, he played all the games with a back four, apart from the last 10 minutes of the Europa League final against Manchester United, where they played with a back five,’ said Maresca. ‘But I’d never seen Ange play with a back five before.

‘Now, in the last game against Newcastle and the game against Midtjylland, they started with a back five and then changed to a back four. So I guess they can do both.

‘But I can see already with Nottingham Forest, even in a short period, that he is trying to do something similar to when he was at Spurs.’

It has been suggested that, having had the international break to reflect and regroup, Forest will head into today's game determined to secure their first win of Postecoglou’s tenure.

On top of that, the reaction of the home fans to their team’s efforts at the City Ground could swing the atmosphere and momentum as the game progresses.

‘We are just focused on the game and we try to analyse and find the game plan for Forest,’ explained Enzo.

‘Even if we plan the game and think about it in different ways, we know [depending on the scoreline] that it can be a game played mentally [because of the atmosphere inside the stadium] in the last 20 minutes or 10 minutes.

‘But we try to plan for the game from minute one and try to see how we can win the game.’

That plan will swing into action at 12.30pm today, when we kick off against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the Premier League.
