Argentina began their preparations for the Copa America by beating El Salvador with Enzo Fernandez getting his name on the scoresheet, while Genesis Antwi impressed again for Sweden Under-17s.

The Chelsea midfielder netted his third goal for his country on his 19th appearance, getting the second of Argentina’s 3-0 win over El Salvador in a friendly played in Philadelphia in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The world champions piled more misery on a side which has now gone 21 games without a win, starting when Cristian Romero headed them into the lead from a corner 15 minutes in.

Enzo then made it two before half-time at the end of a swift counter he started, continuing his run into the box and smashing the loose ball into the net from close range at the back post, when Giovani Lo Celso’s shot was blocked.

Lo Celso then got the third himself as Argentina continued their impressive run, having now won 10 of their 11 matches since triumphing at the 2022 World Cup, as they get read for this summer’s Copa America in the USA.

Those preparations continue early on Wednesday morning (UK time), when the Albiceleste take on Costa Rica in another friendly in Los Angeles.

At youth level, Genesis Antwi scored for Sweden Under-17s for the second time during this break. Having got a goal and an assist as they opened the elite stage of European Under-17 Championship qualifying with victory over Bulgaria, the full-back repeated the trick as they booked their place in the tournament with a game to spare by beating Wales 2-1.

Antwi was a constant threat and had one effort cleared off the line at the end of a fine solo run, before Sweden took a first-half lead. The Chelsea Academy defender got his moment in the second half, though, slotting in low from a tight angle in the box to secure the victory and qualification for the Under-17 Euros, which will be played in Cyprus at the end of May.
