Chelsea FC Women face Bristol City in the Continental League Cup final this afternoon and captain Magda Eriksson expects a tough encounter at Vicarage Road.

The Blues lifted the Women’s League Cup for the first time in our history a year ago, when a brace from Bethany England secured a 2-1 victory against Arsenal in last season’s final.

It took a last-gasp winner to clinch cup glory for Emma Hayes’s side and Eriksson anticipates another tight affair against Bristol City later today.

She said: ‘Bristol City have proved that they are a team that can beat anyone and compete with any team. That’s the case in this league, there are no walk-overs.

‘You know that you are going to get a tough game, whichever opponent you face, and I expect that to be the case today as well.’

Heading into this afternoon’s final, which kicks off at 2.30pm and can be watched live on BT Sport, Chelsea currently sit at the top of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and have secured a place in the Champions League quarter-finals following our recent 3-1 aggregate victory against Atletico Madrid.

With our FA Cup campaign set to begin against London City Lionesses next month, the Blues remain in the run-in for all four trophies, but Eriksson has highlighted the importance of not looking too far ahead and focusing on this afternoon’s clash with Bristol City.

‘We're all aware of how many more games there are left to play before we can even start having that in our mind, but the end goal is always to win trophies,' she continued.

‘We know we have a squad that can win trophies in all the competitions that we enter. We don’t consciously talk about it, even though we're all aware of it and it’s a fact, but for us the most important thing is to think of the next game.

‘That is all we can do. If we start looking too far ahead, and not about the next game, then I don’t think we will be successful, so we are trying to stay present.’

Chelsea have been provided with a huge boost ahead of today’s game, with the return of a fully-fit Eriksson, having been without the skipper for our recent Champions League first leg against Atleti and league fixture against West Ham.

Eriksson was an unused substitute in our second leg with the Spaniards and the Sweden international says she was bursting with pride after watching from the sidelines as her team-mates showed real togetherness and character to progress to the European quarter-finals, as well as earning another vital three points in the race for the league title.

‘I think sometimes it’s good for me to take a step back and look at our team and how they perform,’ admitted Eriksson.

‘I was proud of the team this week, especially during the first leg at home. We pulled through a difficult moment, something we haven’t experienced before and got an amazing result at home.

‘Stepping back and observing for a short while, it made me proud to see how our team takes care of each other and how we stepped up for each other.’

Today’s Continental League Cup final kicks-off at 2.30pm and is available to watch live on BT Sport.
