Chelsea FC Women face Wolfsburg in the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final this afternoon and the Blues captain Magda Eriksson believes the current squad is the best she has ever been a part of.

Standing in the way of the Blues reaching the semi-finals are last year's finalists Wolfsburg, a side that has had the upper hand on Chelsea in recent years.

The Blues have never beaten our German opponents, but we go into the fixture having lost just once in all competitions this season and Eriksson says it will be a much-improved Chelsea side taking on Wolfsburg this afternoon.

She said: ‘I think we have showed over the years how much we have improved every year.

‘We feel that with the way our squad have been performing lately, we are further at the top than Chelsea has ever been. This is the best team I’ve ever played with.

‘All being said I still think it is going to be a really difficult game and it feels like this year, there are more teams that could go all the way this time.’

Chelsea secured silverware earlier this month following our Continental League Cup final victory and Eriksson says there is a real ‘hunger’ and ‘drive’ within the Blues squad to achieve trophy success on the European stage.

She added: ‘The Champions League is the biggest thing.

‘There are a lot of us that have never been in a final and I think that hunger is what drives us on a daily basis.

‘It drives us in training and it drives us to be better all the time. We always have that goal in our minds.

‘The game on Wednesday is going to be a massive game and there will be another one a week later.

‘We will go out there with no fear and play our normal game.’

Today’s first leg will kick-off at 4pm UK time (5pm CET).

The game can be viewed live on this website, the 5th Stand app and our YouTube channel, apart from in the UK (where BT Sport are showing the game live), Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Mexico, Portugal, Sweden, Norway and Australia.
