After having scored in both of Chelsea’s matches at the World Sevens, Erin Cuthbert was feeling determined to keep the winning run going at the tournament.

The Blues ran out victorious after extra time against Everton on Thursday afternoon, before also beating Leicester City later in the evening at Brentford’s Gtech Stadium.

Goals from Cuthbert, Wieke Kaptein and Sandy Baltimore saw us take the 3-1 win against the Foxes, and while the format of the games is light-hearted, winning is ingrained in the Scotland international’s approach.

‘We're competitors, and we want to win,’ said Cuthbert afterwards. ‘That's the bottom line. We're all professional athletes, so even though there's a fun element to it, we are still serious, and we still want to win everything we do. You don't have fun unless you win.’

The walkouts from each Women’s Super League side at World Sevens were a mixture of acrobatic, entertaining and well-choreographed during Thursday’s action, and Cuthbert was even feeling competitive over Chelsea’s plans for Friday and Saturday’s games.

‘We're going to have to have some discussions over dinner later tonight and breakfast,’ grinned the skipper. ‘But we're going to have to keep pulling it out of the bag because we keep watching other teams and their performances!’

The Blues had never featured at the World Sevens before, but seemed to be enjoying their time on the pitch during the 30-minute games as they entertained the crowd with some slick play.

Friday will see us face London City Lionesses at 6pm, before the semi-finals and final are played from 11am on Saturday. And Cuthbert is looking forward to the rest of the tournament.

‘To be honest, I didn't know what to expect because we've never played here before,’ she explained. It's a totally different format. The rolling subs, seven-a-side, everything is different.

‘But I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed going back to feeling like when I was a kid and going to tournaments and playing several games per day.

‘So I enjoyed the first day, and I'm really looking forward to the next two.’
